Johanna Evans is the VP of Product Design at Guru, where she leads the teams behind the company’s AI-powered Knowledge Agents—driving product strategy and crafting user experiences that build trust in intelligent systems, making AI transparent and human.
A true multihyphenate, she’s also an entrepreneur, design leader, visual artist, photographer, author, and medical doctor. Whether guiding teams with empathy, shaping delightful product experiences, or capturing the human condition through her underwater photography, Johanna brings the same curiosity and care to everything she does.
Before joining Guru, she co-founded PaperFlip and led SurveyMonkey’s mobile design initiatives. Originally from Colombia, she began her career as an ICU and ER physician before earning a BFA in Product Design and an MFA in Photography. Her fine art work has been exhibited at SFMOMA, UCLA, the New York Public Library, and in private collections.
Lunch table host on day one

Building trust when the system thinks for itself
AI is moving faster than our playbooks for trust. Together, we’ll unpack how to design confidence into AI systems — what actually works (and what doesn’t). Johanna will share lessons from launching Guru’s AI Chat and Research features, including ways to measure “trust debt,” use citations and verification cues effectively, and find the line between transparency and overwhelm.
Bring your own experiences, experiments, and questions. This conversation will be about comparing notes, surfacing what’s working in the wild, and leaving with ideas you can use right away.
