About the talk

Design is a Time Machine to the future

- Barbican Centre

The superpower of designers is to imagine and create potential futures. Designers add most value when they push boundaries not just pixels.

However, during times of change, there is increased business pressure for certainty. As a result, ideas become smaller and more predictable. Optimisation starts to trump transformation.

As design leaders, how can we move from taking tentative steps to making giant leaps?

In this talk, Chris will share stories from working with organisations and digital teams of all shapes and sizes. He’ll share practical strategies to help you and your team embrace change to deliver more ambitious and impactful work.

He’ll cover thoughts on:

- The ingredients for successfully creating change.

- Ways to get your whole team comfortable with change.

- Creating time for big ideas when the pressure is to deliver now.

- Encouraging bottom-up innovation from your team.

- Avoiding the trap of chasing low-hanging fruit and MVPs.

As we continue to navigate challenging times, this is a reminder of the power of design and the ability of designers to create a bold future.
